Conversely, large numbers of reptile bones, including six species of lizard, giant tortoises and a horned crocodilian, Aldabrachampsus dilophus, were found at Point Hodoul, but a single bone of Dryolimnas cuvieri was the only avian element recovered. Limited numbers of fossil reptile remains have been described from Bassin Cabri, and Harrison & Walker described an endemic gadfly petrel Pterodroma kurodai ( Fig 3) and a terrestrial duck Aldabranus cabri from the same locality. These are Bassin Cabri and Bassin Lebine on Ile Picard (West Island) ( Fig 2), with deposits older than 136,000 YBP, based on 230Th/ 234U dating of the Aldabra Limestone, and Point Hodoul on Malabar (South Island), the youngest of the three at 100,000 YBP. The atoll includes a number of Pleistocene fossil localities that contain terrestrial gastropod assemblages, but only three vertebrate fossil localities are known.
